Still Alive

So, lack of posts is due to school starting again. It seems like I have at least 20 pages to read for every class (5 total) every night. That, and I work on the weekends and I've been subject to all the long shifts that eat up your day. Its only the third week of school and I'm dragging.. not a good sign.

Needless to say, the kniting is on the back burner and its KILLING me. I'm still working on the Harry Potter Scarf, been commissioned for another cell phone holder, and I really want to make Randy a hat. I like him entirely too much to try a sweater yet. We bought some cheap acrylic yarn at Walmart that's surprisingly soft.
I tried reading while knitting the oher night and it wasn't a complete disaster, so there's still hope. :D
After seeing Callie and Kristin's yarn I want to dye my yarn so bad!

And finally... the tag from Toni from about 500 years ago:

"List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to."

1. Televators by Mars Volta
2. At last by Etta James
3. Rock 'n Roll by Led Zepplin
4. Somebody Told Me by The Killers
5. Happy X-mas by John Lennon
6. Criminal by Fiona Apple
7. Everybody's Got Their Something by Nikka Costa

I don't have anybody to tag :(

Knits!

At last! Pictures of knit projects! To begin with..the Bouncing Souls bag died. I was retarded when it came to the intarsia (is that the right word?) and things just didn't work out. So here it is now, and no I don't want to talk about it. Grr.

What do you get when you combine these two yarns?

That's Right! Mint Chocolate Chip Wrist Warmers!!

These things are very warm! The brown is 100% cotton that I bought from this girl who makes wonderfully fun creations and sells them here. The greenish/yellowish/blue is a boucle yarn from the $1 section of Target. Whoohoo! These were my first try at double pointed needles and I had a blast making them. I had trouble finding the right size for my tiny wrists, but it worked out, although one is a little tighter at the opening than the other.

Speaking of double pointed need projects, I'm trying to make womb from knitty.com and its being a pain in the butt to start. You only cast on 6 stitches to begin with, so I keep getting them twisted around and confused when I divide them on the 3 needles and start my first row. I'm thinking about getting some bamboo needles so that the yarn doesn't slide around so much. Despite the trouble, it is very fun to weird out my little brother by knitting a uterus while watching TV with him.

Right now I've been working on this mindless project:

At last! My Harry Potter Scarf!! I'm making it only about 4" wide and REALLY long to be a little more fun than the movie version. I have to say, after using yarns of strange material on 4 needles, its a relief to use plain, acrylic yarn on two normal needles. I plan on using this as my "mindless knit" so who knows how long its going to take to finish. I did what's in the picture during an Iron Chef marathon.

More pictures coming as soon as I get my camera back from Matt and Kristin! Tuesday is the 10th, so I get my ring back!!! Its also our one and a half year anniversary, so we're going out to dinner and having a grand ole time! Here's the happy couple at the 2006 New Year's Prom!
Don't worry Toni, I'll reply to your tag as soon as I figure out my list!

Post-Holiday Update!

Wow! It has been crazy around here!

First and foremost: I got the most gorgeous ring from my boy!!!! Unfortuately, the people at the jewelry store didn't listen to him when he told them my ring size, so I have to wait until the 10th to get it back :( Pictures later!

Toni got me some unbleached white wool and Kool-Aid for Christmas. Kool-Aid dyeing here I come!

I visited my first real knitting store and was so overwhelmed with my choices that I didn't buy anything! I'll fix that little problem later on, especially if I go shopping with Callie and Toni. I'm sure that they'll help me spend money.

I would show pictures of the scarves that I made for Callie and Toni, but I was finishing them up last minute and didn't have time to take pictures. More pictures of other WIPs soon!

Last night we had the funnest Prom New Year's Eve party ever! I forgot my camera at the host's house, so pictures will come later!

I know I'm forgetting some things, but that's okay. Overall, it has been an amazing holiday season this year. It is so wonderful being surrounded by such good people as friends and such a supportive family. I am endlessly thankful for each and every person in my life. Seeing everyone at the party last night truly enjoying themselves and dancing the night away was really an uplifting experience after a tiring week. Thank you all for everything and here's to 2006!

Random Update

Thought I'd do a quick update while I'm waiting for the fumes in the archeology lab to dissipate (spraying maps with sealant is potent). Although, I am still sitting in the lab, so perhaps you can watch my brain cells die as I type.

I haven't had time to knit since my last knitting update because of school. Thank God next week is finals week. I have the easiest finals this semester too. One involves going to Kabuto and having sushi. Yum. I wrote my very long paper already, so now I'm working on a billion projects for another class. Why oh why didn't I start these at the beginning of the semester?

Speaking of starting things early, I thought I had all the time in the world for presents between the end of school and Christmas. But wait.. what's that? I only have a week?! One week to do ALL of my shopping and knitting?! Ack!

What am I doing wasting time on here?!

Oh, Thanksgiving was yummy!

Thanksiving was DELICIOUS this year! I even got to have leftover turkey Manhattans the next day. Mm mm good!
I worked Friday morning.. ack! It was pretty busy. For some reason, there was an epidemic that seemed to cause everyone to be ridicuously s-l-o-w at the register. All in all, people were in good moods, thank God. There is nothing worse than someone without their caffeine fix, in a rush, stressed out over traffic, and drooling over deals they have yet to get to. Randy and I went to the Lighting of the Tree ceremony Friday night. It was neat, but not as magical as it was last year. There were probably half the people there and something was just missing. We still had a lot of fun though.

Surprise!! Knitting update!!

Here are the cell phone holders I made for some friends...

And a scarf I made for a friend...

And a bag I made for a friend (pre-felting)...

and I started some wrist warmers for myself...

But look how big they will be on me! I have to start over :(

I had started a Harry Potter scarf, but I decided I want to make it a tube scarf, so I ripped it out ( I only had about 3")

And now a kitten update from the Crazy Cat Lady... Look who found the Christmas Tree!

I've decided that Lexie, the tabby, is actually Kevin from Sin City. Her eyes always reflect light, she has sharp, pointy claws, and she likes the taste of hands. Creepy.

Knittens and Kittens

Hooray for my kitties not conforming to the stereotype!

Ok, so maybe not. They discovered how much fun the (minuscule) yarn stash is.

And managed to find the ONLY ball of yarn to roll around my room!

Does anybody know why my cat looks absolutely stoned here? I don't

By the way, the black kitten is Layla and the tabby is Lexie. Its amazing how much kittens can light up your life, I hightly recommend them.

I had a great day today! I slept in, hung out with tonigirl and the girls at Strange Brew to knit and went to a open house party at my cousin's new house. To top the day off, I'm going over to my boy's to watch Desperate Housewives and Patrick Dempsey. I mean, Grey's Anatomy.

Lesson learned...

Last night I learned the wonders of knitting with kittens. TWO kittens. One goes for the yarn, the other the needles...ugh! Fun times though, because I actually knitted! and I love my babies :)

Rachel
I am a full-time-and-a-half college student. I'm majoring in Archeology and Anthropology with special focus on human anatomy (especially the skeleton!) This makes Halloween my favorite time of year, lots of skeleton goodies!
When I'm not schooling I'm spending time with the my boyfriend and trying my hardest to keep up with all the knitting projects that I want to do. So much to knit! So little time!
